Cumin is also called jeera.
It is a small plant. The seeds are dried and used as a spice. There is
probably on kitchen in Asia without jeera. It has become so common to use jeera
in all types of dishes for its unique taste. But jeera also has so many
medicinal qualities. It is put in oil and fried to be mixed with different
dishes. Jeera is roasted and powdered to get jeera powder. It is very rich in iron.
It
is believed that if the bride and groom keep jeera with them through out the
wedding ceremony, they will enjoy a happy life together.
Benefits:
1. Anaemia: Jeera is good for those who
have deficiency of blood since it has a high content of iron.
2. Acidity and Gastric problem: Jeera
powder is mixed with jaggery and eaten.
3. Jeera is good for curing urinary
problems.
4. Jeera is taken raw by those who can’t
sleep at night.
5. Digestion: Jeera is good for those who
have digestion problems.
6. Boils in mouth: Eat a few grains of
jeera.
7. Intestinal problems: Jeera is good for
curing intestinal problems.
8. Bad breathe: Eating a few grains of
jeera after lunch removes bad breathe and improves digestion.
9. Kidney stone: Soak a few grains of jeera
in water over night. Drink the liquid in the morning. Stones in kidney will
dissolve.
10. Energy drink: Methi and jeera powder
mix with lemon juice. This is an energy drink.
11. Diarrhoea: Mix jeera powder with
jaggery and eat.
12. Blood in stools: Boil the peel of
dalimba (pomogranate) in water with jeera and ginger. Drink it to stop blood in stools.
13. If you don’t feel hungry, just mix jeera powder with jaggery and
eat.
14. Common cold: Jeera powder is mixed with hoot milk and taken as a
drink.
15. False labour: cumin seeds are boiled in water to prepare cumin tea.
This is used to differentiate between true labour and false labour (due to
gas).
15. Painful joints: Pepper, cumin and ginger boiled in mustard oil
makes effective massage oil. Apply it on painful joints.
16. Body heat: A glass of water
with cumin seeds helps in reducing body heat.
17. Head ache: Powder cumin seeds and add gingerly oil. Heat it and
apply on fore head twice a week.
18.Stomach heaviness: Add black pepper
powder and cumin seed powder to one glass of buttermilk and drink.
19. Loss of appetite: Fry curry leaves and
grind with black pepper, cumin and dried ginger. Add a pinch of salt and mix it
with rice to get a good appetite.
19. Gas problem: Add cumin seeds to hot
water and drink to get rid of gas.
20. Vomiting: Just eat half a teaspoon of
jeera powder.
21. Piles: Mix roasted cumin seeds with
unroasted ones and powder them together. Take half spoonful of this mixture
daily with one glass of water.
