84. TURMERIC



TURMERIC



Termeric is a root. The root is boiled fro several hours and then dried in oven. Then they are powdered to get the turmeric powder, which is used as a spice in many types of dishes like ice creams, yogurt, yellow cake, orange juice, popcorn colour, cereals, sauce, pickles, etc. The powder is yellow in colour and gives the food yellow colour. It contains curcumin and it has an earthy, bitter, peppery flavour and a mustardy smell.
Turmeric is also used in its fresh form like ginger. Powder is applied on bride and bride groom before marriage believing that it gives a shine to the body and keeps harmful bacteria away.
Turmeric is an important part of a prayer room. It is applied on statues and also on forehead of people.
Benefits:
1. Freshness: Just rub a little turmeric powder paste made with oil or water over your face. Your face will become fresh and shining.
2. Turmeric acts as antiseptic for wounds. It purifies the blood.
3. Cold: put turmeric powder in warm milk and drink. Cold will disappear.
4. Stomach ache: Rub a piece of turmeric on a stone with drops of water to remove the paste. Eat this paste for stomach ache.
5. Allergy: Grind neem leaves and mix with turmeric powder. Apply on area which is scratching.
6. Scars: mix turmeric powder with sodium chloride. Apply on scars.
7. Turmeric is used as an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory agent.
8. Acne Inversa: Turmeric is used in the treatment of an incurable disease called acne inverse or Hidradenitis Suppurativa.
8. Turmeric is used in some sun creams.
9. Ants don’t like turmeric and hence it is used in gardening to keep ants away.
10. Turmeric is used to prepare the radiator stop-leak sealant mixtures.
11. Indigestion: Add turmeric powder to rice starch and drink.
