Green gram or ‘moong’ is well known as a seed used for sprouting. Sprouts can be eaten raw or cooked. Sprouts are rich in digestible energy, bioavailable vitamins, minerals, amino acids, proteins, beneficial enzymes and phytochemicals.  They are in fact full of life and the perfect food for our live body.
Green gram is also eaten as a seed, cooked in soups, curry and many other dishes. Starch is extracted from the bean to make jellies and noodles.
The beans are peeled, cooked and made into a paste called mung paste. This is used in ice-creams, filling for cakes and desserts. De-hulled beans are used in soups. Mung beans are peeled to get mung dal, which is used in curry and pongal. The dry beans are soaked in water and dried partly. This is deep fried to make a tasty snack.
